How To Sing On Stage

Singing on stage can be frightful. You feel that panic and fear of the unknown. You don’t know how the audience will react? What if you forget the lyrics? Will your voice hold out? So the anxiety builds. However, preparation can help. If you are well rehearsed and in good physical condition then performing should not be an issue. Stage fright is not really a rational fear and thus performers aren’t reasonable people. It doesn’t matter if it’s all in the mind it still affects the voice. You need to talk yourself out of these mental irrationalities. Apprehension is good and positive energy will heighten the reflexes and expand our abilities. You just have to manage your anxiety symptoms.

Another way to prepare to sing on stage is to warm up before a performance. It will take your mind away from the stress and irrational fears it also helps you to hit those notes and protect your vocal cords from damages even some permanent damages. Just as important as warming up is to cool down your voice after a performance. Your vocal folds get all stressed out and they need to be relaxed. If you don’t cool down your voice you risk vocal damage when your strained voice. If you are not recovered before your next singing performance you risk another attack leading to stage fright. This is a vicious cycle. You have to affirm to yourself that it is just stage fright and only in your imagination.

You can definitely conquer it and get rid of it if you put your mind to it. Get those negative thoughts out of your mind and just step on stage and give the best performance you can. Once you have done this you can do it again and again and it will become easier and you will get over that stage fright. That is one of the greatest feelings you can have as a singer. Remember if you want to sing on stage you need one key ingredient, “passion.” A passionate performance is compelling and engaging. It makes the audience sit up and become interested. To do this is quite easy. All you need to do is remember what the song is that you’re singing about.

Try to relive that experience as you are sending the words flying into the audience. Just imagine that the event is actually happening. When you do this your passion will show through and the audience will love it! If you really want to deliver a passionate performance that add a small cry. Use this cry like a tone to deliver the performance and you will not only communicate your passion to the audience but your singing will come easily. Not only will the audience respond but you will have a richer tone and easier tone flow.

It is always difficult to get up on a stage for the first time. However, if you get up and sing from your heart, smile and move to the music you will have fun and it will reflect in your singing and make the audience enjoy you and your singing.
